Member for Moore, Ian Goodenough today announced that a re-elected Morrison Government will provide $1.5 million to the City of Joondalup to relocate the RSL War Memorial at the Ocean Reef Marina.
The construction work at the Marina has made it necessary to relocate the Anzac Memorial Arch to a permanent and more prominent site.
“Eight years ago, I pledged to always honour our national heritage. As part of the Centenary of the Anzac, I delivered federal funding to the provide a new memorial where we could honour over a century of service and sacrifice,” Mr Goodenough said.
“Our community will benefit from the relocation of the Memorial and a new home for the local sub-branch, ensuring we can honour the service and sacrifice of our Anzacs for years to come. I thank our community for supporting my petition to make this relocation a reality.
Attorney General and Liberal Senator for Western Australia, Senator Michaelia Cash, said she was pleased to announce the funding commitment onsite, with members of the Joondalup City RSL in attendance.
“The unique location of the Ocean Reef Memorial provides the perfect place for the community to reflect upon the sacrifices made by Australian veterans to secure our freedoms.”
City of Joondalup Mayor, Albert Jacob, said he welcomed the commitment towards the relocation of the RSL War Memorial, which was now required due to the exciting Ocean Reef Marina construction project.
“The City appreciates the service of the Joondalup City RSL to its members and the wider community in ensuring the sacrifices of our servicemen and women are respectfully recognised and honoured.”
Joondalup City RSL President, Rick Green said the Joondalup City RSL community were looking forward to relocating the Memorial to a more permanent home, allowing members to reflect upon the service made by Australia veterans.
“The funding commitment will bring our community together to remember the sacrifices made, whilst becoming one of the key attractions at the Ocean Reef Marina for years to come.”
If re-elected, the Morrison Government will deliver this project in partnership with the City of Joondalup.
