Local charities have received around 3500 items of non-perishable food to assist families in need this Christmas thanks to the generosity of our Indian Hindu community.
Members from the BAPS organisation donated the goods during a two week Christmas appeal, supported by Member for Moore Ian Goodenough MP, who identified worthy charity organisations much in need of their generosity.
Candidate for Joondalup, Sheldon Ingham, volunteered his time to transport the donations to The Salvation Army and the Spiers Centre in Heathridge as well as No Limits Perth.
“The BAPS community have done a fantastic job co-ordinating the drive under difficult circumstances this year and should be commended on its wonderful generosity of spirit,” Mr Goodenough said.
“I feel humbled and grateful to play a small part in helping families in need to have an enjoyable Christmas at the end of an extremely tough year.” Mr Ingham said.
“The donation will benefit communities navigating financial hardship and crisis during the Christmas period as well as the economic impact of the pandemic as we move into the new year,” The Spiers Centre CEO, Gaelle Gouillou said.
“Given the tough times many people have faced this year, we have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from all of our community members, from the very young to the elderly,” BAPS Community Outreach Coordinator, Dylan Wadia said.
“As an integral part of the community, we are always looking to serve others. Our guru Pramukh Swami Maharaj worked tirelessly to teach us that ‘In the Joy of others lies our own’, as such we work to this ethos to serve our community when we are able to.”
