The rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN) in Moore is steadily progressing with 57 per cent of the electorate now able to connect to the service.
Federal Member for Moore, Ian Goodenough MP, received a special briefing in Canberra this week from NBN Co’s Ben Bulmer and Mark Briers from the Office of the Minister for Communications.
As at 1 March 2018, in the electorate of Moore:
• There were 67,145 premises
• 38,447 premises are ready for service
• Approximately 57% of the rollout is complete
• 11,890 premises are connected
• 30% of premises have connected to an NBN service.
Suburbs currently under construction include Joondalup, Burns Beach, Kinross, Edgewater, Hillarys and Padbury.
Kallaroo, Duncraig, Marmion, and Sorrento are currently in the planning phase for construction to commence later in the year.
“Many constituents have contacted the office with NBN-related queries and we are in regular contact with NBN Co to ensure these issues are conveyed and dealt with to the best of our ability.” Ian said.
Common concerns surrounding the installation of the NBN were highlighted at a Community Forum Mr Goodenough hosted in his electorate late last year.
One of the key things for residents to understand when installing and connecting to the NBN is what factors NBN Co are responsible for as opposed to the individual Retail Service Provider.
“Many of the complaints concerning internet speeds relate to an individual subscriber’s contract with their service provider, and are not in the area of responsibility of the NBN Co.”
Mr Goodenough said that he personally connected to the NBN in November last year and had to deal with a number of minor technical issues, which were frustrating, however once resolved he has had reliable service for a number of consecutive months.
“We are asking residents to be patient during the implementation, given a national project of such magnitude - the result will be connection to the information superhighway.”
“By the end of the year significant progress will be made in rolling out the NBN to practically all the premises in Moore.”
